Signs of distinction

When you have a reputation like Habanos, it is not surprising that unscrupulous people try to imitate presentations and products. Here you will find the identifiers that you should always look for.
It is important that you buy your Habanos only in recognized and authorized stores.

The guarantee seal of the Republic of Cuba

The first time the Guarantee Seal was used was in 1889 by means of a Royal Decree, issued by the King of Spain. Later in 1912, the independent government of Cuba passed a law authorizing the use of a new design, similar to the one currently used. In 1931 it underwent a slight modification and in 1999 the change was more radical, with the addition of a serial number in red and an emblem that is seen only under ultraviolet light.

Finally, in 2009 a new version with a hologram is introduced in each stamp, as well as an individualized barcode that allows the tracking of each Habanos box, from production to its commercialization by each exclusive Habanos distributor in the world. The barcode allows you to verify the authenticity of each box by entering the Habanos website:

Appellation of origin

Since 1994, all boxes carry the Habanos stamp. It is the indicator of the Protected Designation of Origin that protects these cigars. All Habanos boxes and flasks carry it.

Stamps from local importers

Each country or region may have its own complementary stamps, to constitute a supplementary local filter against counterfeiting. These brands are the responsibility of local exclusive distributors. For more information ask your nearest Habanos Specialist.

In the bottom of the box

Since 1960, the funds of all Habanos boxes have a hot stamped brand with the words “Made in Cuba”. Before that date, on certain occasions it was written in English (Made in Cuba). As of 1994, in the funds of the boxes also appears a hot stamped brand that says “Habanos S.A.”, name of the company that distributes the Habanos in the world. Between 1985 and 1994 the name was "Cubatabaco". Today the following markings are used:

Totally at Hand - Long Gut

Since 1989, the classic Habanos boxes, from Tripa Larga, have a hot stamped stamp with the words Totally Hand-made.

Totally at Hand - Short Gut

In the boxes of Habanos of short gut you can see the brand hot stamped, with the words Totally at Hand and from 2002 the letters TC (Short Gut) are added.

There are also products that have a stamped stamp that contains the following text: “Habanos S.A. Made in Cuba ”, but that does not include the words“ Totally at Hand ”.
These are pure machine made. They are not fundamentally products covered by the Denomination of Protected Origin (D.O.P.) Habanos. They are mostly protected by the Protected Designation of Origin (D.O.P.) “Cuba. Mechanized Tobacco ”
