His is the third cigar from the Montecristo Open line. Vitola name is Forum. A perfect choice for admirers of Montecristo No.2 when in a tight time schedule. The Open series explores light woody/leathery aromas on a mild tobacco backdrop. It was intended for sailing amateurs around the globe.
As usual, the purchase of these cigars was easy; a day or two turnaround when buying with VISA but the order was processed very quickly and efficiently. The box arrived within about ten days, having been opened for checking by Habanostar but with the cigars in mint condition.
I was very much looking forward to trying these sticks, and so had to have one with a coffee outside on the terrace on the same afternoon that they arrived. The Open Regatta is quite a nice smoke; it is evenly made, with an attractive wrapper and a delicate woody aroma. On cutting, it drew well. Initially, the flavour was a bit 2D; there was not as much caramel as the Quai D’Orsay I had the other day, although it was pleasant and cedar-tinted nonetheless. However, some more distinctive flavours began to emerge during the mid-third, which complemented the cafetière coffee perfectly. This is not a strong smoke; it is more a Beaujolais than a Bordeaux! That said, if you take your time and draw them out, I would say the notes are quite mature and flavoursome. This is a smoke that lasts 45 mins to an hour.
